Happy Holidays from the

Arizona Ophthalmological Society
Legislative Notice

The AOS leadership, directed by the legislative chair, Robert Spurny, MD, is actively tracking and lining up opposition to a bill in the state legislature expanding optometric scope of practice to include oral antivirals and macrolide antibiotics. You could help them. Patient testimonials in particular would be very helpful. Any member with patients who have/ have had severe keratouveitis from HZV that would be willing to express the desire (in writing or on video) that the treating physician for their condition be a MD or DO with extensive training on the whole body - and experience with their condition - please contact Dr. Spurny or Dr. Brian Rose through Patrice atpatriceh@azmedassn.org

Medicare Letter for Your Patients

If you are like most of us, you are probably confused and frustrated with all the "sausage making" we are hearing about in congress regarding health care. Some of you may be for the type of major reform being advanced by the democrats, some may be against it. Whichever side of the debate you are on, those of you who see Medicare patients must have a hard time swallowing the 21% cut to your reimbursements that will happen starting January 1, 2010 if it is not derailed in congress.

Contact your congressional representative and your Senators; implore your patients to do the same. Enclosed is a sheet that I would encourage you to make available to your patients to assist them in helping us with this effort. They have a stake in this too.
